It can also be that the pipe or hose is not properly connected to an appliance that uses gas. Natural gas is naturally odourless, but to ensure that a gas leak is detected in time, a malodorant is added to the gas in the Netherlands.<\/p>\n<p>Below are the three main symptoms of a gas leak (in your home):<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Hissing sound<\/li>\n<li>unpleasant smell<\/li>\n<li>discolouration or drought<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Once gas is detected by smell, the concentration of gas in the air is approximately 1 per cent. There is not an immediate explosion risk at this point. This way, people are warned in good time. It is important that appropriate measures are taken quickly.<\/p>\n<p>What should you do if there is a gas leak?<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"hola-icon-globe\" style=\"top: 45px; left: 487px;\" src=\"safari-extension:\/\/2483110A-54E6-492D-8CDE-36947C71E2D5\/22a8ea23\/holaIconWhite.svg\" alt=\"Hello\" \/><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><div class=\"wpb_text_column\"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\"><h4><strong>Look after your own safety<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Don't take unnecessary risks.;<\/li>\n<li>Open windows and doors;<\/li>\n<li>Turn off the main gas supply. The gas tap is located just before the gas meter. Usually in the meter cupboard. Note: if the ends of the tap are not aligned with the pipe (i.e. at a right angle to the pipe), it is closed.;<\/li>\n<li>Under no circumstances should you use fire, sparks, electrical appliances, light switches, cigarettes, incense, or candles.;<\/li>\n<li>Go outside.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4 id=\"2-beoordeel-de-situatie\" data-magellan-target=\"2-beoordeel-de-situatie\"><strong>Assess the situation<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Check if there are any other people in the premises. Make sure you and others leave the premises.<\/p>\n<h4 id=\"3-gaslek-melden\" data-magellan-target=\"3-gaslek-melden\"><strong>Report a gas leak<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>To report a gas leak, call the national emergency number (0800 \u2013 9009) or 112. If you call 112, it is important to ask for the fire brigade.
